Zinc Supplements Might Not Help With Ear Infections
Thursday, February 18th, 2010People have claimed that zinc supplements have helped with ear infections plus with otitis media with children but recent studies show that zinc might not actually cut the risk down. The International Health Group along with Katherine Abba researched a variety of studies with the advantages and disadvantages of taking Zinc as a supplement for infections.
They did a study on malnourished children and found that it did help with middle ear infections by reducing them but they did another study on infants who are very healthy and living in a urban community that was very poor the ones that they gave the zinc supplements to only showed that the middle ear infections lowered but did not mean that they where safe from never having them.
Diane Heatley, M.D. thinks that the study done with the zinc supplements was meaningless because it was only one study and with a very small crowd so that is why there is not enough evidence to show if or if not zinc really does help with ear infections. Diane hopes that further studies will be done and will be pushing to get more studies accomplished to see if there can be evidence revealed with zinc.
