Syracuse vs Vermont NCAA 2010

The two teams in tonight’s match are an interesting matchup. Firstly, the Syracuse Orangemen, who battled through the Big East to an impressive 28-4 record, and ended with a number 1 seed. They will certainly be the favourites in this matchup, when they face off against the Catamounts. The Vermont Catamounts came through the America East with a 25-9 record, but don’t let their underdog status fool you . There has barely been a single year where March Madness hasn’t thrown up a few shocks or surprises so let’s have a closer look at the Syracuse Orangemen and the Vermont Catamounts and see what they’re bringing to the game.

Syracuse Preview
While they weren’t nearly so highly ranked at the beginning of the season as they are now, the Syracuse Orangemen have put together perhaps their best season since they won the National Championship with superstar Carmelo Anthony. The Orangemen have a host of high-profile wins this season, beating Georgetown (twice), West Virginia, Villanova, California, Marquette, and UConn, among many others. Their only losses during the regular season came in conference to Pittsburgh and Louisville. Outside of those two blips, the Orangemen bulldozed everyone in their path. On offense, Syracuse features a balanced attack, with 5 players averaging over 10 points per game (as of March 6th), and a deep bench.

Vermont Preview
The Vermont Catamounts will be hoping that their star player Marqus Blakely will be able to do some damage in the first round of the tournament, and will also be hoping that his team mate and other senior Maurice Joseph will do the same.

Mike Lonergan’s Vermont Catamounts will certainly need to be on their best game if they’re going to be able to compete in this one. Their star, Marqus Blakely, will need to show the type of form for Vermont that he has been showing throughout the regular season in the America East if they’re going to put up a fight against the higher ranked Orangemen.Syracuse Orangemen’s 28-4 regular season record looks almost unbeatable in this matchup, but stranger things have happened
