Sunday, February 14th, 2010The Terry Fox Foundation organized hundreds of children at school for them to particpate in a marathon for cancer awareness. This fund raiser research for cancer is actually known as the biggest and largest fund raiser for a single day. It is also called the “Marathon Of Hope”.
This year 45 schools joined in on the run with the marathon. The Mumbai Police Commissioner D. Sivanandan flagged off the marathon in the Trident Hotel. Cancer patients attended the event to watch and see what happened. He stated that patients who have cancer struggle because their entire life changes for them and their families. That is why the focus on medical funding is needed and necessary.
The main thing that the committee in India wanted to do was send amessage all over the world that there is still a chance that cancer can become cureable with research and studies. Terry Fox decided to run in 1980 despite the fact he had bone cancer and had one prosthetic leg. He died in 1981 but Fox did a distance of 26 miles each day before he did making it halfway with what he wanted to finish. Canada honors him now with doing this run each year.
