The Cornell Big Red have pulled off the upset over Temple in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, by a final score of 78-65.

The Big Red had two players with at least 20 points, and thrived on a balanced, powerful offensive attack and a defense that kept the Owls scorers under control for their entire game.

Cornell Temple Final Score

Temple had a tremendous season in the A-10 conference this year, led by sharpshooting guards Ryan Brooks and Juan Fernandez, and powerful 6-9 forward Lavoy Allen, who averaged a double-double during the regular season. In their non-conference schedule, the Owls turned heads by knocking off two Big East schools – Villanova and Seton Hall – in a row. They also lost to Georgetown by just one point, 46-45 and to St. Johns by 7 points, 55-48. After getting blown out by 32 points by Kansas, the Owls cruised to a great conference season that featured wins over Xavier, St. Louis, and Rhode Island.

Meanwhile, Cornell also had a banner year, winning the Ivy League and leading the NCAA in 3-point percentage. They have a balanced team and should be able to put some good performances together.

With the final score of the Cornell Temple game in the books, it’s time for the Big Red to start looking forward to round 2, where they will play the winner of the Wisconsin Wofford game.
